Yep, you will get drenched from head to toe on this one, so we figured it was best to say that right away. Fyre Drill is a very simple ride: you board a vehicle with multiple guests, then fire water cannons at targets… and at other boats full of people you’ve never met before. That’s how dragonriders make friends, I guess.
You know where the real thrill comes from, right? Yeah, your sole objective will (probably) be to ignore the static targets and try to soak the guests on other boats. In that sense, this ride can be very funny. Just remember, you’ll also be a target, so bring a poncho and your water-resistant armor before stepping into Fyre Drill. It’s a fun ride for summer days and for kids who want a good laugh, even if it could use a little something extra to make it more unique.
What we like about Fyre Drill
Fyre Drill is for those who want to have a good laugh, soak other guests, and get drenched in the process. This is a simple ride where you board a boat with friends, remain standing, and fire water cannons at targets, and at other boats ahead of or behind you.
The ride is cute, and every target looks colorful, just like you’d expect from the Isle of Berk. Some targets even give you feedback when you hit them, with characters spinning or reacting in fun ways. Targets include big X’s, barrels, vikings, and more. They all look very cartoonish and cool, sometimes feeling like they’re straight out of Ripsaw Falls at Islands of Adventure.
Also, let’s be real, you’re here for one simple reason: to get soaked. I imagine this ride will close during the winter, similar to Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges, since water is coming at you from everywhere. The background hits you, other boats hit you, and there’s a good chance Little Jimmy from Nebraska will have the time of his life blasting you nonstop from the boat ahead, leaving you completely drenched.
What we don’t like about Fyre Drill
My main problem with Fyre Drill is that it could be a little more than just a “try to hit other guests” simulator. You can hit specific targets throughout the ride, sure, but there isn’t really a scoring system that tracks what you hit. I wish this were more like Men in Black: Alien Attack on steroids, with multiple animatronics and background targets that could rack up tons of points for you.
Can you imagine if your water cannon got stronger the more targets you hit? That could have been a cool gimmick and would give guests a reason to focus on hitting targets before soaking everyone else. For now, however, you just hit targets to see if something changes in the background. Even if it does, the visual feedback isn’t that great. I imagine that, since this is a water ride, animatronics and props just can’t do much.

Honestly, there isn’t much to say about Fyre Drill. If you see one picture of the ride, you kind of understand what it’s all about. If you want to get soaked and have fun with your children, come here. It’s a ride that could use a few new gimmicks and really blend the shooting gallery concept with a water ride, but it falls just short of that.
