Diddy and Dixie Kong next?
Ever wanted to take a picture next to a giant monkey? No, not King Kong, but Donkey Kong - the only monkey who sports a stylish haircut and wears a tie for… reasons.
Universal has confirmed that a Donkey Kong meet-and-greet will indeed happen at Epic Universe, joining the lineup of Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach.
The first-ever tease of Donkey Kong appeared in a video where Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Donkey Kong, Mario, and Zelda, poses next to Donkey Kong. The costume looks awesome, by the way. Donkey Kong is huge, with really expressive eyes, realistic fur, and a huge head.
Seriously, he's basically the size of two characters put together! I really hope there's some sort of air conditioning inside this costume, especially when Epic Universe opens during the busy season starting in May.
It’s safe to say that Donkey Kong will greet guests in the Donkey Kong area next to his roller coaster, while Mario and friends will be by Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. These meet-and-greets are always great opportunities to get fun pictures, especially for Nintendo fans. After all, Donkey Kong is one of the oldest characters in video game history, debuting in his own arcade game back in 1981 when Mario was still known as Jumpman.
Epic Universe continues to drive the hype train until it opens on May 22, 2025. I wonder what other news they’ll have in store for us. Hm, maybe more characters for meet-and-greets? I’d love to see Diddy Kong and Cranky Kong posing next to Donkey Kong, and of course, all the Universal Monsters at Dark Universe.
Now, I wonder if Donkey Kong will sing his epic rap from Donkey Kong 64? Prooobably not.
