Avengers! …Please assemble my Grilled Tuna Steak

Available on: Disney Wish, Disney Treasure

Worlds of Marvel is one of the rotational dining venues available aboard the Disney Wish. As the name implies, it’s based on Marvel superheroes! More specifically, on fan-favorites like Ant-Man and the Wasp. Wait… no one cares about Ant-Man? *Ahem*. Well, let’s say that it’s based on Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily, who reprise their movie roles from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Worlds of Marvel is… okay. It’s definitely not as charming as Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure and not as impressive as 1923. Worlds of Marvel is the most futuristic of the three restaurants and, like Arendelle, offers a mix of dining and entertainment. It features interactive elements, including a device called the Quantum Core on each table - a large cylinder that you press buttons on to trigger various effects. While it’s not particularly exciting, it does provide a nice way to keep kids entertained.

What we like about Worlds of Marvel

Let’s get one thing out of the way: the food is pretty good. Nothing absolutely amazing, but it gets the job done and is tasty, and that seems like the norm for a lot of the restaurants aboard Disney Cruise Line. You can find a lot of different options, from a grilled tuna steak to a roasted beef tenderloin and ricotta gnocchi. Some portions are small, but remember that you can order as many dishes as you want.

Most of the time, Worlds of Marvel is pretty chill and hardly feels like a restaurant that also features a small show. The screens often display random footage from Marvel movies, but nothing that actually demands your full attention.

Near the end of the experience, however, Ant-Man and the Wasp will talk about quantum physics and say things I have no idea are actually real or not. I mean, I was terrible at physics during my high school days, so I’m probably not the right student for Paul Rudd. There is also a scene of some Marvel Superheroes boarding the Disney Wish to fight Ultron (why are they fighting on the Disney Wish? Why is Ultron there? I have no idea). The action scenes actually look pretty sick and well done, and it’s crazy to imagine that they’re actually fighting just a few decks above where you are!

Near the end of the presentation, Ant-Man asks us to interact and press some stuff on the Quantum Core, and you bet that if Paul Rudd asks me to press buttons on a Quantum Core, I will make it my life objective to press buttons on the Quantum Core.

That’s it. All that was needed to beat Ultron was to press a button. I bet that Iron Man and Captain America wanted to know about this before the second Avengers movie, huh? Ant-Man and the Wasp do appear in costume and wave to everyone, greeting passengers. Some guests do look puzzled, while others usually clap. Ant-Man and the Wasp do not stop by to take pictures, by the way, and stay around for about 5 minutes before leaving. Also, Ant-Man isn’t Paul Rudd, I made sure to stare right into his soul. Disappointing.

What we don’t like about Worlds of Marvel

Although there’s nothing inherently wrong with this restaurant, it does feel a bit disappointing. The food is good, but the entertainment leaves something to be desired, if I’m being honest. The atmosphere could benefit from more Marvel-themed elements, perhaps statues of Marvel heroes or a setting inside Stark Industries. For now, while it does look futuristic, it’s largely dominated by screens and lacks additional thematic details.

It also lacks interactive elements. The main show consists mostly of Ant-Man and the Wasp talking on the screen, interspersed with random footage from Marvel movies that feels out of place. I wish they had done more with the Quantum Core. For instance, you could press buttons on it to change what appears on the screen next to your table. Even replacing the Quantum Core with a remote control to change what’s shown on the TV could have been an improvement, honestly.

The characters near the end are fine. Ant-Man and the Wasp do not stop for pics or autographs, but they stroll around and you can probably position yourself just right for a nice picture with them.

My main issue with Worlds of Marvel is that Disney could have done more. I’d love to see superheroes make live appearances during the meal, rather than just being limited to the TV screens. It feels like much of the budget and effort went into featuring Rudd and Lily on screen, along with additional heroes like Miss Marvel, Captain Marvel, and the new Captain America who also appear later.
