A not-so wretched hive of scum and villainy

A long, long time ago (well, two years to be exact), a very special bar debuted on the Disney Wish. This adults-only bar welcomes both Jedi and Sith, and features skilled bartenders who roleplay as if they’re serving drinks straight from Coruscant, with a huge digital screen behind them showcasing views of different galaxies.

The Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge is an adults only location inside the Disney Wish. This is a great place for those that grew up with The Empire Strikes Back and love everything related to lightsabers, Rancors, the Force and drinks with weird names. There is definitely room for improvement and to increase the Midi-chlorian count, but I’d say that, so far, the Hyperspace Lounge does a good job.

What we like about Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge

The Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge is exactly what it sounds like: a space designed to simulate a bar straight out of the world created by George Lucas. The area isn’t very large, with a few booths and tables resembling those found in the Millennium Falcon, and some seats available at the counter. In fact, the counter might be the best spot in the house. It’s where you can sit down and chat with the bartender, who will most likely stay in character. Just don’t be like me and bring up intricate topics like Hutts and the criminal underworld, it might get you into trouble!

The counter is where you can use a small iPad to interact with the screen just behind the bartender. This allows you to 'travel' to different planets like Tatooine and Endor, complete with the classic lightspeed effect on the large window before the entire background changes. It’s a nice touch.

The drinks are pretty good and unique, even if a bit expensive. They range from $15.50 from $20.50, and come in beautiful cups with a lot of smoke and weird colors. Yep, just like you’d expect from Star Wars. You know that Luke drank blue milk in The Last Jedi, so let’s just say that the drinks here are just as weird. Still, they are pretty tasty. They even have a special, $5000 cocktail that comes with some special gifts like a visit to the Star Wars Ranch in San Francisco.

I also like that the entire bar resembles an upscale cantina you might find on Naboo, perhaps even frequented by Queen Amidala. This definitely isn’t the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine. Everything looks beautiful and high-end, from the tables to the counter, and even the bartender is dressed elegantly. There are also a few cabinets with drinks on display and relics like a small Ahsoka statue to enhance the overall atmosphere.

What we don’t like about Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge

One of the biggest drawbacks of the Hyperspace Lounge is its small size. While you might be able to walk straight in nowadays, reservations are usually required, especially during peak times like summer when the ship is even more crowded. In fact, during these periods, there may even be a time limit, with guests asked to stay for just 45 minutes so more people can enjoy the adventure.

I also wish that there were more random events happening inside the lounge. I’m not asking for Han Solo to appear shooting Greedo right there, but we are talking about a Star Wars bar! How about some aliens appearing from time to time? From Rodians to Duros, they could have a lot of different Star Wars species appearing. Imagine if one of them took a seat next to you and started talking about the situation in Coruscant, for example. I know that some people don’t want to be bothered like this, and the area might be too small for aliens to just walk around, but that would have been so fun.

I also don't think non-Star Wars fans will enjoy this place too much. Sure, the drinks look nice and taste good, but the same can be said for most bars aboard the Disney Wish. Plus, you can find cheaper drinks and more spacious venues elsewhere on the ship to sit down and relax.
