From Kart Racer to Golf Player to Theme Park Ride

Ah, Yoshi! I still remember seeing that beautiful dinosaur face while playing Super Mario World back in 1990. I was just a young lad then, but since that day, Yoshi has popped up in Super Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy 2, and basically every Mario spinoff out there. He’s played golf, soccer, baseball… and now he’s a ride at Epic Universe. Way to go, Yoshi!

Yoshi’s Adventure is a kid’s ride at Epic Universe. And when I say that, I really mean it - this is a kid’s ride made for toddlers. Some are calling it the PeopleMover of Epic Universe, but honestly, it’s even slower than the one at Magic Kingdom. Let’s check it out.

What we like about Yoshi’s Adventure

This ride looks absolutely adorable. The queue is already beautiful, filled with nods to the Mario games, especially Yoshi’s Island (which, many don’t know, is the official sequel to Super Mario World!). You’ll spot collectible flowers from Yoshi’s Island, Yoshi’s eggs, and hear an amazing soundtrack. If there’s one thing Yoshi’s Adventure nailed, it’s the music… and yes, you get to hear it while waiting in line.

As a chill ride, it gets the job done. I’d only recommend this one for families with toddlers or if you plan on bringing your date here. Your vehicle moves really slowly, but it gives you some nice views of Super Nintendo World. You get to see all the “?” blocks, Toadette, Princess Peach Castle, Baby Mario and even Kamek - that’s the Magikoopa.

This is a good ride for big Nintendo fans, and a great spot to snap some fun photos. I mean, it’s not every day you get to see Spinies, Captain Toad, Piranha Plants, and Thwomps up close.

The ride is also a little interactive, but you’ll need a Power-Up Band for that. As you ride Yoshi’s Adventure, you’ll spot several colored Yoshi eggs along the way. Just press the buttons inside your vehicle that match the egg colors to rack up virtual coins. It’s simple, sure, but still fun for toddlers.

What we don’t like about Yoshi’s Adventure

Yoshi is cute, but the ride comes with a few major problems. The biggest one? It’s incredibly slow. It somehow manages to be even slower than the PeopleMover and the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride at Islands of Adventure. Seriously, I think it moves at the same pace as a leisurely stroll through the woods on a rainy night through mud.

The problem is, you don’t even get a breeze while riding Yoshi’s Adventure. That’s a big no-no, especially since there’s hardly any shade on this ride. Can you imagine riding it in the middle of summer, stuck on a giant Yoshi cart as you slowly roast under the sun? Nightmare fuel. Universal really needs to add more shade, maybe even give each Yoshi an umbrella so guests can relax and stretch their legs without frying.

I also don’t get why there’s a height requirement for this ride. It’s way more chill than something like It’s a Small World, yet you still need to be at least 34 inches tall to ride. Why? I’m not sure.

Also, c’mon… make the ride go a bit faster. Even if it means removing a few vehicles.

Conclusion

Yoshi’s Adventure is cute, but I wish it were more than just a slow stroll through Super Nintendo World. There aren’t many surprises, and moving at a snail’s pace means you probably won’t even be able to relax. There’s hardly any breeze, and the sun will be there to greet you every step of the way. As it stands, I’d recommend this one for toddlers or die-hard Nintendo fans.
