The Grinch is pranking us by setting a height requirement in this ride
Of course that rides in Seuss Landing need weird and unusual names, so welcome to the HITSSTTRR. Yeah, that’s our short for the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride Review. You know what, let’s just call it the Seuss Trolley ride, I guess that’s easier.
The Seuss Trolley Ride is a typical people mover, similar to the - guess what - PeopleMover found at Magic Kingdom. This attraction is all about relaxing while taking a leisurely tour around one of the most colorful areas in Islands of Adventure. You have the opportunity to see some crazy creatures and brief set pieces inspired by the stories of Dr. Seuss. Don’t expect anything fast or thrilling, by the way. The Seuss Trolley ride is all about unwinding and having a good time. It’s perfect for resting your legs after lunch or while you plan your next roller coaster adventure.
The Good
I have to admit, I don’t know much about Dr. Seuss. After coming to this ride for the first time, I had to Google the backstory a bit, and found out that this trolley ride tells a story known as “The Sneetches”. So I had to Google what the Sneetches are as well, and found out that they’re a race of alien yellow bird creatures who live on beaches. I left with more questions than answers, but that’s Dr. Seuss for you.
This trolley train ride is, above all, incredibly colorful. That’s a great perk that sets it apart, perhaps even surpassing the PeopleMover at Magic Kingdom. The charming and beautiful vehicles resemble something straight out of a fairy tale. As you glide fifteen feet above the ground, the journey takes you through a variety of entertaining locales. From traversing inside restaurants to gliding through tunnels and Seuss Landing, everything looks nice. The tunnels feature special animatronics showcasing a menagerie of crazy creatures and brief set pieces. While not particularly extraordinary, I imagine kids will find them entertaining, if only for a little while.
The Bad
There’s not much to say about HITSSTTRR… I mean, the Seuss Trolley ride. It’s fun, honestly, especially for little ones. The main problem with it is actually shown in our ride review card above. This ride, for some weird reason, has a height requirement.
For some reason, you need to be at least 36 inches tall to ride this attraction, which is... weird. This means parents can only bring their children here when they're around two years old or older. It's definitely unusual to encounter a leisurely ride with a height requirement, especially considering it's specifically made for toddlers. I imagine the elevation, being set fifteen feet above the ground, is the reason for such a requirement. Still, it's strange, especially when you consider that a roller coaster like The Barnstormer has a lower height requirement of 35 inches.
Will Kids enjoy it?
Toddlers and kids aged 2-6 will likely enjoy this ride. It’s colorful, features pleasant songs, and offers glimpses of cool animatronics during the five-minute tour. However, teenagers will probably want to skip it. With Islands of Adventure having numerous amazing rides to explore, it's doubtful they'll want to spend time waiting in line for a trolley train ride, even if wait times are usually around 10 minutes.
