Wait a minute, THIS is what a budget hotel should look like

If you're looking to save some money on hotels to spend on fifty seven different flavors of butterbeer, you have come to the right place. Surfside Inn is the (slightly) older brother to Dockside Inn, which is located just across the street. Together they make up the Endless Summer Resort, a great option for families on a budget that still want to have access to a pool, a food court area and even an arcade.

Yeah, this is a hotel that’s not trying to be luxurious but gives you everything you need to still have a great vacation without overspending. Big swimming pool? Check. Starbucks? Check. Some standard rooms that can be noisy sometimes? Check.

There’s not much difference between Surfside Inn and Dockside Inn. Dockside Inn is actually a few months younger than Surfside Inn - Surfside debuted in 2019, and Dockside followed in 2020. Dockside, however, is larger and often considered more chaotic, with longer lines, while Surfside is smaller and tends to be less packed, which is definitely a big plus.

Surfside Inn, like Dockside Inn, is a hotel for those looking to save money. Prices are usually around $150 per night, but in some rare cases, you can score deals where rooms cost just $99 a night, which is amazing considering you also get complimentary transportation to every theme park and one hour of Early Entry before the gates officially open. This is a great value hotel, and a smart choice for families with kids who won’t be spending much time in their room.

What we like about Surfside Inn and Suites

That’s an easy one! Spending less than $200 a night on a resort hotel isn’t very common, but Surfside Inn offers just that. Prices can vary quite a bit, but it’s not unusual to find rooms starting at $150. Some annual passholders have even managed to get rooms for $99 a night, which is definitely a steal. Considering that you get free transportation to the theme parks and one hour of Early Entry before the gates officially open, $150 is a pretty good deal for what the resort offers.

Rooms are mostly fine and exactly what you'd expect in this price range. They aren’t as big as the ones at Cabana Bay and have a definite beach day vibe. The good news? Rooms come with a glass sliding door instead of curtains, which is definitely a plus.

The resort layout is also easy to navigate, which is especially helpful since Surfside Inn is smaller than Dockside Inn. Surfisde has 750 rooms, compared to the 2000 or so at Dockside. Phew! It shouldn’t take more than five or six minutes to reach the bus stop, the main lobby, or any of the swimming pools. Speaking of pools, they are great for the price, as we mentioned in our Dockside Inn review. You also get a lot of amenities like a Starbucks, a basic food court, an arcade, and even a fitness center. That is a lot of extras for a great price point.

What we don’t like about Surfside Inn and Suites

Oh, that’s a hard one. For a value hotel where you pay around $150, Surfside Inn gets a lot right. It is actually better than Dockside Inn, since it is smaller and tends to attract fewer crowds. Our main issue in the Dockside Inn review was related to noise, and the check-in lines there can get overly long, but that problem is much less of an issue at Surfside Inn. Remember when we mentioned that Dockside Inn has 2,000 rooms while Surfside has less than half of that? That makes a big difference for guests who want a quieter stay.

Conclusion

You could argue that the Endless Summer Resorts are the only Universal hotels where you cannot walk to the theme parks, but considering the price, you cannot expect everything to be perfect. Otherwise, the price range would go up significantly. This is still a great option for families on a budget and for those who care less about their room and more about riding Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure from 9am all the way into the night.
