Relax, you won’t find T-Rexes or velociraptors on this corner of Jurassic Park
Ever wanted to be like Dr.Grant and explore a brand new world full of dinosaurs, mysterious caves and… rope bridges? And slides. And also cute footsteps that roar when you step on them. You are in luck, my friend, because Camp Jurassic is one of the best playgrounds in Florida, and certainly a place that your young children will want to spend hours and hours just walking around and uncovering all kinds of secrets.
I like to say that Camp Jurassic is a mix of The Boneyard in Animal Kingdom and Tom Sawyer Island in Magic Kingdom. Just like The Boneyard, you're going to find rope bridges and a lot of things for you kids to play around in the land of dinosaurs and, much like Tom Sawyer Island, this is a huge area full of things to see and explore, from caves to splash areas and much more. I guess I don’t need to say much more than that. If you have children up to ten years old, they're likely to have a blast at Camp Jurassic.
The Good
There is a lot to see and do in this playground. I’d say that Camp Jurassic is bigger than The Boneyard, and asks for you to run around and just explore. The Boneyard is probably a more focused playground, where your little ones can sit down and play with the sand while you stretch your legs nearby and just recharge your batteries. Both areas are fantastic for children, each offering a slightly different appeal.
I love the atmosphere of this place, as it really reminds me of Jurassic Park. There are trees and plants everywhere, gates that resemble the ones from the movies and even hidden microphones in the foliage that occasionally emit dinosaur sounds from time to time. You will find misty caves full of minerals on the walls, waterfalls, strange dino-footsteps and not one, but two splash areas that are great during the summer. One features classic water spouts, while the other has water gun turrets for friends to drench you from head to toe. Fun!
Camp Jurassic is also a safe haven for the lovers of rope bridges. Seriously, there are so many of them, creating a maze of nylon and steel cables. Kids love them. Adults… not so much. Get ready to navigate stairs and maintain your balance as you chase after your kids.. If you prefer to just relax, there are specific areas for you to sit down and watch your kids from afar, and you even get nice views to Pteranodon Flyers and the VelociCoaster.
There's nothing I'd label as "bad" about this place. The main problem, similar to The Boneyard and Tom Sawyer Island, is that time can fly away unnoticed faster than a Pterodactyl. It’s a good idea to talk to your kids and set up a time limit so you can also explore everything else that Islands of Adventure has to offer. And, oh boy, this is an Island with a lot to see and do.
Will Kids enjoy it?
Yeah, kids up to ten years old usually love playing around in Camp Jurassic. Camp Jurassic is huge, and often considered one of the best playgrounds in Florida. This is also a good place to chill, sit down and relax. Need to give lunch to your little ones and you are looking for a peaceful place? Come here and enjoy the vista. Need to sit down and escape from the Florida heat? Look for a bench under the shade of a tree.
No, there won’t be T-Rexes or velociraptors interrupting you in any way. One of our favorite spots here is the “Echo Cave”, a dark cave which gives you perfect echo to everything you say. You bet there are a lot of kids there yelling all sorts of stuff, but it’s all for good fun. Unless they are learning cuss words, then it’s slightly less fun.
