A gentle emotion
I have a confession to make: I’ve never watched Inside Out. I know, I know, it’s a “me” problem, and I promise to watch it this year. I’ve just been busy binge-watching TV shows and re-watching Moana… you get what I mean, right? Still, I promise not to let my lack of Inside Out knowledge get in the way of this review.
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is a spinning ride located at Disneyland on Pixar Pier. In theory, it’s very similar to an aerial carousel, like The Magic Carpets of Aladdin and Dumbo the Flying Elephant at Magic Kingdom.
The difference is that you enter one of eight boxes designed to look like balloons, and then it’s time to spin around. Each box can accommodate up to four guests, and you can choose to face clockwise or counterclockwise as the ride spins around for about ninety seconds.
What we like about Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind
This is a simple ride that doesn’t offer much in terms of innovation. You just step into a small box with your family, get lifted up, and start spinning around. Your vehicle goes up and down gently and that’s it.
The atmosphere, however, is fantastic. Positioned right next to the Incredicoaster, it truly captures the feeling of being in a classic carnival attraction, surrounded by kiosks selling popcorn and cotton candy.
What stands out most about this ride are the views. It provides great sights of the Incredicoaster and Pixar Pier, and it’s even more stunning at night. Apart from that, it’s pretty much the same as other aerial carousels. You’ll hear some Inside Out characters chatting and saying random things, though I’m not entirely sure who they are. Sorry! Remember, I still need to watch the movie.
This is a charming ride, perfect for families with toddlers and couples seeking a romantic experience. Not every attraction needs to be a high-speed roller coaster or a complex motion simulator. I highly recommend experiencing it at night: the entire ride comes alive with LED lights and fun visual effects, and even the nearby Incredicoaster looks even more impressive.
What we don’t like about Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind
There’s not much to dislike about this ride. It’s not aiming for groundbreaking innovation, but it does what it’s meant to do. That said, adults and teenagers might prefer to skip this one in favor of some of Disneyland's more popular attractions. It’s a straightforward ride designed mainly for younger children, and that’s perfectly fine.
