This charming ride can certainly be Part of Your World
The Little Mermaid always makes me think about two things: how delicious crab legs are and also that Under the Sea is probably one of the best Disney songs… ever?
Thankfully, you do get to listen to Under the Sea while riding… Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid. That song is so catchy that it even managed to sneak its way into the name of the ride!
Journey of the Little Mermaid is very similar to Peter Pan’s Flight and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. We are talking about a dark ride full of animatronics which recreates classic and charming scenes from the movie, giving you also the opportunity to listen to some of the most well known Disney songs of all time. Part of Your World, Kiss the Girl and Under the S- - no I won’t say it so I don’t have it stuck in my head for the rest of the week.
The Good
Journey of the Little Mermaid is an amazing ride for kids - that’s Magic Kingdom for you, after all - but it’s also a good option for the entire family. I love it that this attraction in particular is super colorful and uses water for some cool and original visual effects. In fact, you enter your shellmobile for two/three guests and the attraction simulates that you are exploring the ocean. The ceiling is adorned with projections of bubbles and water teeming with colorful fish and vibrant corals. It is a nice touch that adds to the immersion.
I do like that there are so many animatronics scattered throughout the attraction. You'll encounter fish, crabs, corals, jellyfish, starfish, and essentially everything that inhabits our oceans, except plastic and trash, thankfully.
Some guests might think that this ride could use an update. Sure, it’s an attraction that has existed for an old time, so don’t expect modern and ultra realistic animatronics like you would see on Na’vi River Journey in Animal Kingdom. The animatronics here still look great, and have that cartoonish look to them which reminds us of the classic Disney movies.

Will Kids enjoy it?
Toddlers and small children usually love this place. I mean, how could you not? This is a colorful ride which uses several animatronics and visual effects to make it look like you are living in the ocean alongside Sebastian and Ursula. You even get to see that beautiful crab dancing and singing next to several fishes and corals.
Yes, Ursula appears in all her animatronic glory, and can be a little scary to some children, but she is only there for a few seconds until we are back to Ariel and Prince Eric.
This is a great option for kids that want something calm and chill and, overall, might be better than both the Pooh ride and Peter Pan. The queue times aren’t as long as Peter Pan’s Flight, so you will stay in line for about 20 minutes or so, and you get to listen to some Disney classics, which are lacking in the Pooh dark ride.
