Even Grumpy gives this one a thumbs up!
You know what’s funny, Magic Kingdom has a ton of roller coasters when you stop and think about it. Space Mountain, Big Thunder Railroad, The Barnstormer, Tron and let’s not forget about Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which is one of the most popular rides in the entire park.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is an attraction very similar to the classic Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which means that it’s a family coaster that won’t give you headaches with nasty bumps or unexpected drops. You will see the entire story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in about three minutes, which is a reasonable time for a steel roller coaster.
This roller coaster also has a few elements taken from a traditional dark ride, similar to what we see in Animal Kingdom’s Expedition Everest. These are always fun, but they do add to the overall ride duration. In the Snow White attraction, this means that your vehicle will indeed be moving slowly through a few sections as the story of the beautiful princess and her loyal friends unfolds before your very eyes.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a very good and safe option for families. You won’t find any huge drops here or sharp turns that might actually scare you. In fact, the highest drop is only 39 feet, less than half of Expedition Everest's 80-foot plunge. To put things in perspective, the VelociCoaster in Islands of Adventure has a main drop of 140 feet. Seven Dwarfs is, after all, a family coaster, with a fun track layout that both adults and kids can enjoy.
This coaster also features a new technology that gently sways your vehicle from side to side, replicating the movement of a real mine train. The motion is never too aggressive, and some guests might not even notice it, but it's cool to see new technology being incorporated in rides like that. This adds a touch of originality to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, making it stand out from a sea of competitors.
Seven Dwarfs also has an incredible queue rich in details, featuring the classic dwarf mines and classic Disney songs from Snow White. Even the vehicles look great, as if they were built from real wood.
I really enjoy this attraction, but it does suffer from Magic-Kingdom-Syndrome. You don’t know what that is? Well, this means that the queue times for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are very, very high most of the time. From the early morning all the way to late into the afternoon. I am talking about a 70 min queue time for a good portion of the day. Ouch.
Will Kids enjoy it?
This is the next step in thrilling adventures after you take your kids to The Barnstormer. The main drop height is 39 ft and Seven Dwarves reaches a speed of 34 mph, against The Barnstormer’s 25 mph. As you can see, this is an upgrade for our younglings, and a great, fun ride that opened back in 2014.
You won’t find any loops, inversions, sharp turns or crazy g-forces that might give you a headache. This roller coaster is all about short drops and a few mild turns, but nothing that could be called extreme. If your kids love Slinky Dog Dash in Hollywood Studios, then they will also love Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
