Discover the elegant side of New Orleans at a resort that’s perfect for adults
- Transportation options: Complimentary bus service to Disney theme parks. Bus usually takes about 25-30 minutes to reach the theme park.
- Dining options: Food court available; no table-service restaurant.
- Swimming pool: Yes, a large pool with a simple waterslide, plus a small children’s water play area.
Port Orleans - French Quarter is often considered one of the best Moderate Resorts to choose at Disney World. This is a very elegant-looking resort, and I’d say it's best suited for adults who want a modern hotel feel without Disney-themed decor everywhere.
Sure, French Quarter does have some of the fun elements you'd expect from a Disney hotel, like a large pool with a waterslide and a food court, but it doesn’t feature any major Disney touches that make you feel like you’re stepping into the Happiest Place on Earth.
…and there’s nothing wrong with that, by the way! Some guests still want to enjoy the perks of staying at a Disney resort while relaxing in a hotel with an elegant atmosphere, without Mickey statues and themed amenities throughout the room.
There’s also a resort called Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, but it’s definitely not the same as French Quarter. You can walk between them in just about fifteen minutes, but each resort has its own pools, restaurants, and bus stops, making them feel quite distinct despite the similar names.
What we like about Port Orleans - French Quarter
The best thing about Port Orleans - French Quarter is the bus service and how compact the resort is. Everything is close by, so you don’t need to walk far to reach the bus stop that takes you to Walt Disney World.
It’s a bit of a downside that the only available transportation option is the complimentary bus service, but they do a great job moving guests to and from the parks. In fact, this might be one of the best bus services for a very simple reason: Port Orleans - French Quarter almost always has a dedicated bus that doesn’t stop at any other resort. This makes trips to Disney quicker and smoother, with no extra stops along the way.
There is, however, a very niche transportation option available at French Quarter that a lot of people don’t know about. This resort is located alongside the Sassagoula River, and has a boat service connecting it to Disney Springs. This makes it easier for you to go to the entertainment district to do some shopping, eat at some of your favorite restaurants or maybe catch a movie late at night.
Port Orleans - French Quarter has an elegant, even romantic atmosphere. Even the rooms look classy and charming. The whole resort is heavily inspired by New Orleans, with design elements reflected in everything from the charming streets to the guest rooms and main lobby. This resort is great for groups of adults rather than families with lots of kids. If you're traveling with children, you might enjoy a more kid-friendly option like Disney’s Art of Animation Resort over Port Orleans - French Quarter.
The resort has a swimming pool with a small waterslide, a kids' water play area, a small store, two bars and a food court featuring quick-service restaurants. While there’s no table-service restaurant on-site and the water play area is modest, they still get the job done. It’s also a nice touch that the food court offers some New Orleans specialties like jambalaya and beignets.
What we don’t like about Port Orleans - French Quarter

Although the bus service is excellent at Port Orleans - French Quarter, it’s the only complimentary transportation option to the Disney World parks. Guests also receive free parking at the theme parks, but it’s a bit of a downside that this resort doesn’t have access to the Skyliner system or monorails.
Port Orleans - French Quarter wouldn’t be my first choice if I were traveling with a large group of children. It’s not that the resort isn’t kid-friendly - you do get a swimming pool and a small water play area, after all - but there are more affordable options better suited for big families. This resort, however, is an excellent choice for adults who want to explore and enjoy Disney World for the first time.
So, if you’re looking for an elegant and romantic place with excellent bus service to Disney World, you might have a great time at Port Orleans - French Quarter. Plus, you have the opportunity to take a boat to Disney Springs and enjoy some quality time there with your special someone. Yeah, there’s definitely a lot to love about this Disney version of New Orleans.
