That's a lot of toys
In honor of Giving “Toys” Day, The Walt Disney Company has happily announced a contribution to the Marine Toys for Tots Program.
Through the Disney Ultimate Toy Drive, an initiative that has already gathered 16,125 toys this Holiday Season with the support of generous families and fans, an additional 75,000 toys will be delivered to children in need.
The monumental donation was revealed on ABC's "Good Morning America" by host Ginger Zee. Joining the announcement was Staff Sergeant (SSgt) James Caldwell, a true hero and dedicated volunteer with a profound connection to Toys for decades. SSgt Caldwell has worked with fellow Marines and participated in the wrapping of some of the donated toys during the segment.
A Hero's Journey: SSgt James Caldwell
SSgt Caldwell's journey is inspirational to say the least. Born into the foster care system, he found a family at just 6 months old when Bill and Judith Caldwell welcomed him into their home. Officially adopted at the age of 4, SSgt Caldwell describes this day as "winning the lottery" and "the greatest thing that ever happened" to him.
In his early years, SSgt Caldwell expressed gratitude for receiving Toys for Tots gifts every Christmas, a tradition that profoundly influenced his decision to join the Marine Corps to serve his country. Now, he takes the opportunity to give back, continuing the legacy that shaped his own life.
Toys for Tots and Disney: A Legacy of Giving
Toys for Tots, founded in 1947 the same year Walt Disney and his animators designed the enduring Toys for Tots logo, has been a beacon of hope for children in need.
Since its formation, Marines and volunteers have distributed around 652 million toys to over 291 million children.
It's always good to see gestures like that, even more so with the Holiday Season approaching. Way to go, Disney! We are proud of you.
