A good competition for the AquaMouse!
As we all know, cruise ships are getting more extravagant as time goes by. Ice skating rinks and rock climbing walls now seem like child’s play, with major cruise lines investing in unique entertainment options like go-kart tracks, roller coasters, massive waterslides, and attractions that rival theme parks - all on board a massive vessel.
This year, the Norwegian Aqua is set to launch, introducing the first-ever roller coaster/waterslide hybrid at sea.
We’ve already talked about Bolt here on Famvia - Carnival Cruise Line’s roller coaster that has received rave reviews. While Bolt is a more traditional coaster for two guests, allowing you to control the speed of your vehicle, the Aqua Slidecoaster takes a different approach. It’s a waterslide propelled by a mechanical arm that accelerates riders to maximum speeds.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!
There’s still not much information available about the Slidecoaster, but here’s what we know so far: it’s the first of its kind on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship, replacing the go-kart tracks found on previous ships. This change is a smart move, as the Slidecoaster takes up less space than a full racing track, freeing up room for guests to move around more comfortably.
The ride itself is expected to last around one minute. From the short preview video, it seems to have nailed one key feature: no endless stair climbing! Thanks to its mechanical arm propulsion system, you won’t have to trek up multiple decks just to reach the starting point. This definitely makes the Slidecoaster a more convenient and accessible experience for everyone.
Now we wait for the Slidecoaster to debut alongside the Norwegian Aqua in April 2025. Only a few more months to go before we can review it!
