You know what, this one is indeed Great
If your kids are ready to step up their coaster game at LEGOLAND Florida, The Great LEGO Race is where things get a little more exciting. This Wild Mouse Coaster mixes the charm of LEGOLAND with your typical roller coaster thrills, and it is definitely a level up from gentle rides like Coastersaurus or The Dragon. If the Coastersaurus gets a 2/10 in our crazy scale, then The Great LEGO Race is a 4/10.
It used to be a VR coaster, but the headsets are long gone now after Covid. Honestly? We are not sad about that. No headsets means fewer delays and less cleaning, so the line moves faster. Nice.
So what makes The Great LEGO Race worth checking out? And what should you know before hopping in line? Let’s break it down.
What We Like About The Great LEGO Race
This is about as intense as a roller coaster gets at LEGOLAND Florida… which means it's still very family-friendly, but definitely more exciting than The Barnstormer or Flight of the Hippogriff. This is a Mouse-Coaster, meaning it’s all about sharp turns, quick dips, and a fast-paced layout that keeps things interesting without being overwhelming. There's even a wild spiral drop near the beginning that gives you that perfect "whoa" moment without scaring the pants (bricks?) off younger riders.
If you’ve already conquered Coastersaurus and your kids are craving something with more speed and movement, The Great LEGO Race delivers just enough thrill to feel like a big deal. It is the kind of ride that kids talk about afterward. “Hey, I thought I was going to be thrown off the vehicle!” Yes, I also love Wild Mouse coasters, kids.
This coaster strikes a great balance as well: It feels fast and wild, but it never crosses that line where it becomes too intense for kids. No huge drops, no loops, no moments of hanging upside down. Just a lot of quick turns, small hills, and that spiral section we mentioned earlier. It is smoother than most traditional steel coasters, too. No head-rattling, just pure motion. God, how I miss Wild Mouse Coasters in theme parks, like Primeval Whirl at Animal Kingdom!
What We Don’t Like About The Great LEGO Race

The theming is a bit meh, honestly. Once you're on the coaster, you mostly see plain supports and some background theming, but there are not a lot of LEGO characters or scenery to look at. It is fun, but not super immersive. Sure, kids will be more interested in the sudden drops and turns, but it would have been cool to see characters around you or something to make it look like you’re in LEGOLAND.
This is where rides like The Dragon or even The Barnstormer have a small edge. The Dragon starts with an indoor dark ride portion with moving figures and storytelling, while Barnstormer flies you through a cartoon-style barn. The Great LEGO Race could use more LEGO action during the ride itself to match the energy of its queue.
Conclusion
With fewer and fewer Wild Mouse coasters out there, it’s cool to see something like The Great LEGO Race at LEGOLAND Florida. I love that there are three different styles of coasters for kids in this theme park. Coastersaurus introduces children to wooden coasters, The Dragon introduces them to steel coasters, and LEGO Race is a solid option for a Wild Mouse coaster. It does its job well, and children will definitely have a good laugh here.
