Giving away free apples since 1955
Hey, look what we have here… another dark ride at Disneyland! And you know what? I’m totally fine with that. These dark rides are the heart and soul of the Happiest Place on Earth, brimming with charm and sparking our imaginations for decades. Snow White is actually one of the original attractions that debuted with Disneyland way back in 1955. Of course, it’s seen a few redesigns over the years, with the most recent update in 2021.
What we like about Snow White’s Enchanted Wish
There’s a lot to like about this one. By coming here you are already experiencing a piece of Disney history, since this ride has been there since the park opened its doors ages ago. Sure, updates were made, and even the title of the ride went through changes through the years, but this one still remains a classic. Snow White is Disney’s oldest movie, so it’s awesome that this ride is also tied up there as the oldest at Disneyland.
The ride is incredibly charming and a wonderful option for young children. It’s fairly short, lasting only 2 minutes, but it tells a fun story about the original Disney princess and the seven dwarfs. Along the way, you’ll pass through Snow White’s cottage, where she dances with her little friends, a gold mine, and the Evil Queen’s castle.
The visuals are pretty good, with a good number of animatronics, even though the environments aren’t very large. You won’t find multiple animatronics packed into the same scene, but the ones that are there still hold up well today. My favorite part is the gold mine, with its glittering precious stones scattered everywhere, even on the ceiling. Young children will probably love the vibrant mix of colors.
There are also visual effects that are used with the help of digital screens and practical effects, thanks to the most recent updates. The effects remind me a bit of the Alice in Wonderland ride, and include magical trees shimmering and the magical mirror shattering. They aren’t used every time, and never manage to get scary.
What we don’t like about Snow White’s Enchanted Wish
This is a classic story brought to life in one of Disneyland’s most iconic rides. It’s hard to actually dislike it. Sure, there’s nothing that truly sets Snow White’s Enchanted Wish apart from other dark rides, but that’s okay. Its purpose is to remain a timeless attraction that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into the magical world of Disney, and it achieves that beautifully.
That said, the short ride duration can be a bit of a letdown for some. At just 2 minutes, Snow White is significantly shorter than something like Alice in Wonderland, which lasts almost 4 minutes. On the bright side, Snow White usually has shorter wait times, and you’ll rarely have to wait more than 10 minutes to hop on.
If you’re visiting Disneyland, this ride is a must. Not because you’re necessarily a fan of Snow White, the dwarfs, or apples, but because it’s a piece of Disney history. This attraction opened its doors more than fifty years ago, and riding it is like stepping back in time. So go, have fun, and let Disney work its timeless magic on you.
