You might need to pack a (big) jacket for your next trip to Walt Disney World
When you think about Florida and Disney World, you probably don’t imagine bundling up in multiple layers of jackets or sipping a nice cup of hot chocolate to stay warm. After all, we’re talking about the Sunshine State, where mid-July temperatures can soar to an incredible 107°F, and guests stroll through Magic Kingdom with those funny little portable fans. Did you know, however, that December - and especially January - can get rather chilly in the Happiest Place on Flori- on Earth?
You’ve probably heard by now that there was snow in the northern parts of Florida in 2025. Although it has never snowed at Disney World, temperatures in January can drop as low as 32°F. That’s probably not too bad for guests coming from states where it snows nonstop, but it’s still rather chilly, especially for international visitors who arrive in Florida with nothing but flowery shirts and nice sunglasses.

I’ve been to Disney World multiple times in January, as it’s one of the best times to visit due to the reduced crowds. Yes, it can get chilly, especially at night if you’re staying to watch the fireworks at Magic Kingdom or Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios. Depending on the year, temperatures can hover around 41°F for an entire week. I’ve noticed some guests walking around in t-shirts in weather like that, although most opt for big jackets and heavy coats.
So, yeah. Check the temperature before going to Disney World in December and, especially, January. There were some rare years when temperatures even in January weren’t that bad, at around 59f, but that’s not the norm. I usually pack a big jacket when I’m visiting in January, and I recommend the same for people that aren’t used to the cold.
Temperatures in February start to climb to around 60°F and can reach 70°F, so it’s not too bad, and a hoodie is probably enough for some guests. That said, January in Florida can still get quite chilly, so be sure to pack smart, folks!
