Lightning Lane Multi Pass Guide for Magic Kingdom

If you are reading this, this can only mean one thing: you plan on buying Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Magic Kingdom.

This is a very good idea, honestly. Magic Kingdom has over forty attractions and it’s impossible to see everything this park has to offer in a single day. In fact, it’s impossible to see everything even with Lightning Lane Multi Pass, but you will definitely get the chance to check out some of the best, most classic and fun rides with the help of this special service.

The Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Magic Kingdom offers great value. Not only does this theme park have several different attractions for you to choose from, but it also includes Tiana's Bayou Adventure in this special service! Yes, we're talking about the newest ride in all of Disney World and the spiritual successor to Splash Mountain.

What is the Lightning Lane Multi Pass?

Disney decided to rename Disney Genie+ and the individual Lightning Lanes to the Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass on July 24, 2024. This change also affected how these fastpass options work, at least for Walt Disney World. Interestingly, while the fastpass names changed for Disneyland as well, their functionality remained the same. However, this is not the case for Disney World.

The Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a fastpass service designed to help you save time in line. You can purchase it through the My Disney Experience app. This optional, paid service aims to enhance your park experience by reducing wait times. Can you still enjoy Disney World without using it? Absolutely. But will the Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass make your visit even better? Definitely.

Let’s take a closer look at them!

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

This is the main fastpass option at Disney. The cost varies depending on the date of your visit and the theme park, typically ranging from $20 to $35 in addition to your standard theme park ticket. If you're staying at a Disney hotel, you can book express lines for up to three attractions up to seven days before your visit. All other guests can book three attractions up to three days in advance.

Attractions are categorized into two different tiers, with the more popular rides in the first tier and others in the second tier. You can book in advance only one ride from the first tier and up to two (or all three) from the second tier. You can also choose your preferred timeslots (subject to availability) to better plan your park strategy!

Once you’re in the park and have used your first Multi Pass selection, you may be able to make additional selections.

Lightning Lane Single Pass

Let’s not forget about the Lightning Lane Single Pass, which is simpler and more straightforward. This pass is specifically for the most popular rides at Disney World, such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. These rides are not included in the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and with the Lightning Lane Single Pass, you pay for a single express line access. Prices vary but typically range from $10 to $20. You can also purchase the Lightning Lane Single Pass in advance, just like the Multi Pass.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass in Magic Kingdom

Okay, we are finally here. This is the name of the guide, after all, but it was a good idea to give you a heads up and show you what you should expect from Lightning Lane Multi Pass at this beautiful theme park.

Heads up, we are going to create two different groups for Lightning Lane Multi Pass on Magic Kingdom. The first group is for guests that want to experience every attraction that the park has to offer. The second group focuses mostly on what toddlers and kids want to see.

Just keep in mind one thing: creating a Lightning Lane Multi Pass guide is really, really hard. If you opt to go to the best, most popular rides, there is a chance that you will use Lightning Lane Multi Pass on fewer rides throughout the day, but you will at least enjoy the best attractions. If you choose to use it on less popular rides, you will use Lightning Lane Multi Pass a lot, but then you will need to wait in the regular queue for the most popular attractions.

That’s not all, by the way. Let’s not forget that it’s hard to predict the exact time slot of your Lightning Lane Multi Pass reservation, how long you are going to spend in lane for Lightning Lanes and regular queues, if you want to re-ride an attraction you really loved, and even if a ride decides to break down while you are waiting in line. Yeah, it’s not easy, but we are going to try our best.

That’s why we are focusing mostly on ride priority based on Lightning Lane Multi Pass, instead of writing down a guide that you should always follow. Trust us, it’s impossible to create a step by step guide for Lightning Lane Multi Pass since time slots can be so unpredictable.

We are also dividing the Lightning Lane Multi Pass priority in two groups, as we told you already. Later on, we are going to talk a little bit about each ride and why they should be included in your Lightning Lane Multi Pass strategy or not.

Ride Priority A - You want to see Everything

Your ride priority should be:

  1. Tiana's Bayou Adventure
  2. Peter Pan's Flight
  3. Jungle Cruise
  4. Space Mountain
  5. Haunted Mansion
  6. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  7. Pirates of the Caribbean
  8. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
  9. Tomorrowland Speedway

Ride Priority B - You want to focus on what the little ones want to see

Your ride priority should be:

  1. Peter Pan’s Flight
  2. Jungle Cruise
  3. Tiana's Bayou Adventure
  4. Haunted Mansion
  5. Pirates of the Caribbean
  6. The Barnstormer
  7. Tomorrowland Speedway

My three pre-booked Lightning Lane rides would be:

  1. Tiana's Bayou Adventure
  2. Haunted Mansion
  3. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Note: If you are staying at a Disney Hotel, there are days when you can enter the park half an hour before everyone else. We recommend waking up early and getting there as soon as possible for the so-called “Rope Drop”. In this case, you can head directly to a popular attraction like Space Mountain or Peter Pan's Flight and enter the regular queue. This will save you time and a Lightning Lane Multi Pass that you can use for any other popular attraction!

Explaining Lightning Lane Multi Pass Priorities

Now it’s time to talk a little bit about some of our choices when it comes to priorities for your Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure: this is the most recent and hyped ride in all of Disney World, and it's part of Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Of course it's going to be incredibly popular. There is a good chance that you won't be able to secure a spot for it if you are not staying in a Disney hotel and you can't make a reservation seven days in advance.

Peter Pan’s Flight: This ride is almost a meme at this point when it comes to Magic Kingdom. Even if it’s mostly a very traditional dark ride, it has some of the highest waiting times in all Disney World, almost always around 70 min. A lot of guests already know that, and it’s why Lightning Lane Multi Pass runs out fast for Peter Pan. Lightning Lanes here usually take 7 minutes compared to 70 minutes in the regular queue. Sounds like a good deal.

Jungle Cruise: A classic ride that has average waiting times of 40-60 minutes. Jungle Cruise has become more and more popular lately and this might have something to do with the movie starring The Rock in 2021. Lightning Lane Multi Pass runs out fast for this ride, so it might be a good idea to grab one as early as possible.

Space Mountain: You should make Space Mountain a top priority mostly because it’s one of the best rides in Magic Kingdom and an absolute classic. One good strategy is to enter the regular queue once and then enjoy the Lightning Lane later, so you can ride it twice. Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Space Mountain usually runs out around 3pm-4pm, so you might want to grab one as early as possible just to be safe.

Haunted Mansion: Another good option for your Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Haunted Mansion is a very traditional ride and an icon when we are talking about Magic Kingdom. Queues can get really long, around 40-60 minutes, which is a good excuse for a Lightning Lane. part of the queue is also set outside, which can get really hot during the summer, and you can skip that with a Lightning Lane.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: Unlike Space Mountain, it’s very hard for Lightning Lane Multi Pass to run out for this attraction. Regular queues are also not as long as Space Mountain, at around 20-40 minutes. However, the queue for Big Thunder is in the open and can get really hot, especially during the summer, so you might want a Lightning Lane Multi Pass for this one just so you don’t scorch under the sun.

Pirates of the Caribbean: A good choice for Lightning Lane Multi Pass after visiting the best and most popular rides. Queue times for this ride vary a lot, and can be anything from 20 to 45 minutes. Lightning Lane Multi Pass rarely runs out for Pirates of the Caribbean, so there is a good chance you might grab one later in the day.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin: Another Magic Kingdom ride with variable queue times. During the morning, queues are usually pretty long, since a lot of people are in Tomorrowland enjoying Tron and Space Mountain. Regular queues tend to be short in the afternoon. Lightning Lane Multi Pass might run out after 4pm.

Tomorrowland Speedway: Much like Space Ranger Spin, regular queue times are usually very high during the morning, but get as low as 10-20 minutes in the evening. You can skip Lightning Lane Multi Pass for this one if you plan on visiting Tomorrowland late in the afternoon.

The Barnstormer: The truth is, waiting times aren’t usually that high for The Barnstormer. Lightning Lane Multi Pass also won’t save you a lot of time. Still, if your kids are 2-4 years old, this might be a good idea for a Lightning Lane. You can enter the regular queue and then use your Lightning Lane Multi Pass so the little ones can ride it at least twice.

Closing thoughts

Disney Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland.webp

Well, this is it for our Lightning Lane Multi Pass guide for Magic Kingdom. We hope you enjoyed your time learning about some strategies. You might have noticed that we didn’t talk about every ride when explaining Lightning Lane priorities. If a ride wasn’t listed there, it’s because Lightning Lane Multi Pass rarely runs out or there are better options for you.

This guide is very useful, but don’t get too attached to it. Visit the rides you want to visit and spend Lightning Lane Multi Pass with whatever you want, be it Space Mountain or It’s a Small World.

Don’t stress out too much if Lightning Lane Multi Pass runs out for some of your favorite rides. You can always enter the regular queue. Even if it's a 70 minute queue for Peter Pan’s Flight, try to relax and enjoy the moment. You are in Magic Kingdom to have fun and, as long as you get to Magic Kingdom early, there is a very good chance you will be able to enjoy the best attractions.
