A Tidal Wave of emotions that doesn't hurt your wallet
Looking to try a Royal Caribbean ship that's not as massive as Wonder of the Seas or Icon of the Seas but still offers modern entertainment options like an ice skating rink, FlowRiders, huge water slides and plenty of activities?
Liberty of the Seas might be the perfect choice for you. This affordable cruise ship, launched back in 2007, offers itineraries along the East Coast of North America and the Caribbean. It's less crowded and not as large as modern mega-ships, providing a more intimate travel experience, perfect for couples or first-time cruisers.
What we like about Liberty of the Seas

You know what’s funny? I love that a lot of people say that this is a perfect ship to try the “Royal Caribbean experience”. It offers a lot of what Royal Caribbean is known for, including a Royal Promenade filled with dining options and entertainment, Broadway shows, waterslides and so on, all included in a good price package that makes it enticing for families.
A 4-night Bahamas cruise costs around $395 per person aboard Liberty of the Seas, compared to $540 on Wonder of the Seas and $665 on Utopia of the Seas. Liberty is an excellent choice for families seeking a budget-friendly vacation or wanting to give their children a fun experience at sea. Kids will love the wide range of fun activities, from the dual racer slides Typhoon and Cyclone to the Splashaway Bay water park. There's even an ice skating rink for those that dream to be the next Wayne Gretzky.

This is a great cruise for those that love pools, water parks and slides. In fact, the Tidal Wave was installed in 2016 and is a big success up to this day. The Tidal Wave has both downhill and uphill sections, and is considered by many as one of the best slides on a cruise ship. Add to this that Liberty also has the dual slides Typhoon/Cyclone and this is like a paradise for fans of water slides.
Liberty of the Seas is a great choice for those wanting to try Royal Caribbean on a smaller scale. Nowadays, Royal is known for the mega-sips like Icon of the Seas, and when Liberty launched in 2007, it was also one of the biggest ships in the world. I’d certainly recommend this one for people that want to travel with children, are looking to not spend much on a vacation and want to try Royal Caribbean for the first time.
What we don’t like about Liberty of the Seas

As a ship from 2007, Liberty of the Seas shows its age in some areas, particularly in the staterooms, which are often considered small and somewhat outdated. The last major renovation in 2016 didn't do much to enhance the comfort of the rooms. While suites are more spacious and luxurious, it's a bit disappointing that the balcony cabins feel cramped, and the bathrooms are also quite compact.
