What we like about MS Koningsdam
MS Koningsdam is a staple when it comes to Holland America. This is the ship that introduced some of the best restaurants across all cruise lines, including standout venues like Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto, and Tamarind.
The food onboard is widely considered excellent, and the buffet is a big step up from what you’ll find on most mainstream cruise lines. You’ll have access to everything from a sushi bar to fried chicken and plenty of other tasty options. One cool feature is that many of the dishes offered at the buffet are also part of the Main Dining Room menu, giving you a chance to sample a wide variety of what the complimentary restaurants have to offer.
You’ll also find plenty of music venues onboard, including B.B. King’s Blues Club, the Rolling Stone Lounge, Billboard Onboard, and the World Stage. What we don’t like about MS Koningsdam
There’s not much to complain about when it comes to MS Koningsdam. Some guests do feel that the late-night entertainment could be better, though. Most of the activity centers around live music and smaller performances at Music Walk, and on cruises that are six days or longer, some shows may repeat. Keep in mind that this ship blends the classic cruise experience with modern amenities, so you won’t find waterparks, massive theaters, or over-the-top attractions. There are also only two swimming pools, and they can get a bit crowded at times.
So, what’s different between Koningsdam and Rotterdam? Honestly, not much, even though the ships are six years apart. Rotterdam does feature a few exclusive additions, like a new bar and a library. The Club Orange dining room also looks classier and more refined overall, since it was part of the ship’s original design. There are also some updates to the service stations in the buffet. Is Rotterdam a bit better than Koningsdam? Probably, but the upgrades are minor and don’t make a huge difference in the overall experience.
