- Run time: 30 min
- Ship: Disney Wish
On every Disney Cruise, there is a stage show that I like to call “The Medley Show”. These are fully original musicals created just for their host ship that star a mix of Disney Characters from all corners of their film library coming together to entertain you, or make you cry (looking at you Golden Mickeys).
The “Medley Show” featured on the Disney Wish is called Disney Seas the Adventure and tells the story of what happens when Captain Minnie puts Goofy in charge of steering the Disney Wish (Yes the very one that you are on) in order to boost his self esteem. Knowing Goofy’s history with machinery, I was concerned.
Goofy predictably loses control of the steering wheel and first lands us in the East Australian Current! Crush and all of his turtle friends come on stage and sing “Go With the Flow” from Animal Kingdoms hit show Finding Nemo: The Musical. All while Goofy is swimming through the air in his snorkel gear! As a huge puppet nerd, I did love this number and was initially blown away by the vocals from the guy playing Crush. How does he dance with and maneuver that giant puppet while still sounding flawless?? Imagine how silly I felt learning that this was the only song in the show that used pre- recorded vocals…
Onward we went and visited other characters such as Merida, Elsa, and Moana who sang a very empowering belt extravaganza trio of their signature songs. It was so nice to see some Merida representation on stage and there was a cool visual effect with her shooting arrows that I enjoyed. However, the way they brought these three characters together seemed a bit clunky and there were definitely some opportunities for a cool technical effect that were slept on. Elsa was primarily on a blank stage for her solo part and there wasn’t really any magic shown!
Following this, we land ourselves in New Orleans to pay a visit to Tiana at her restaurant! This was probably my favorite part of the show due to the wonderful performance of “Almost there” that utilized the ensembles amazing dance skills and had a lot of fun jazz breaks. The only thing I will say is that this was a LARGE chunk of the show time which may be why all of the other sections felt a bit unfinished and rushed.
The whole story wraps up with Hercules inspiring Goofy to “Go the Distance” and him somehow landing us safely back on track. Minnie congratulates Goofy on “charting his own course” and brings out all of the characters we met throughout the journey, as well as some bonus ones. A Confetti cannon, fireworks, and a rousing finale song close out the show leaving you excited for the adventure ahead! (Just be sure to check your cup for confetti so you don’t accidentally drink it…she said definitely not speaking from personal experience.)
Overall, I thought the show was fine. It didn’t tie all of the story beats together as well as some of the other “Medley Shows” and lacked a bit of the technical “wow factor” I’m used to with Disney. However, it was very cute and featured a lot of the great music that we all know and love.
