Choosing a first ship for a cruise line you’ve never sailed before can be quite daunting. You want, after all, the best experience possible, even more so when we are talking about Mickey Mouse. Let me tell you one thing, then: every single Disney Cruise Line ship is good. None of them are considered bad. What they have are different shows, different restaurant options and also a few different adult only areas.
The main thing to look at when selecting a Disney Cruise
Easy! The winner is… prices! Disney cruises aren’t cheap, so you should definitely check prices and availability. Regardless of whether you're cruising on the Disney Magic, Fantasy, or Wish, each ship has something special to offer—and each will have one or two small downsides as well. Maybe one ship will feature your favorite show but lack a specific restaurant available on another ship, and that’s perfectly okay.
Check availability as well. For your first Disney cruise, consider choosing a ship that departs from a location close to you, where you might be able to drive to the port. Disney operates from several states, including Texas, Florida, and California, so there's a good chance you’ll find a ship with a fun itinerary near you.
Dining Venues

Disney Dining venues are really special. Disney Cruise Line is all about rotational dining, which means that you will be dining at three different restaurants each night of your cruise. They rotate, get it? It’s in the name. A lot of these restaurants are a mix of a typical restaurant with a show, like Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure onboard the Disney Wish, which has performers singing songs from the movie. Other restaurants are all about just good food and nothing else, like 1923.
You might also want to explore some amazing dining options. Rémy is an upscale restaurant with great reviews, available on the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream. Enchanté offers a similar experience and is available on the Disney Wish. Palo, renowned as one of the best steakhouses on any cruise line, is available on every Disney Cruise ship. Definitely give it a try!
Shows

You may also be persuaded by the shows available on each ship. Every Disney cruise features three different shows, with at least one being exclusive to that ship. Frozen: A Musical Spectacular is on the Disney Wonder and Disney Fantasy, while Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular is available on the Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish. Both are considered some of the best stage shows in Disney Cruise Line history.
You simply can't go wrong with Mickey
There you have it, folks. Struggling to choose your first Disney ship? You can’t go wrong with any of them. I won’t lie, two of my top favorites are the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream, but each ship is fantastic and offers something for everyone. Plus, they all feature the best Kids Club at sea, so your children will always be well cared for.
