Disney Cruise Line, much like Royal Caribbean, sails to nearly every corner of the globe. You can find cruises visiting the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and even Alaska! Many itineraries also include stops at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island featuring numerous restaurants and waterslides for a day full of adventures.

Disney Cruise Line Main Destinations
Bahamas & the Caribbean
- Main destinations: Castaway Cay, Lookout Cay, Nassau, San Juan, St. John’s
- Ships: Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Treasure
Much like Royal Caribbean, Disney reigns supreme in the Bahamas and the Caribbean islands. Port Canaveral serves as the main hub, dispatching several ships each year to these tropical paradises, including Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay, Disney-owned private islands. The Disney Wish, based in Port Canaveral, offers hundreds of trips to Castaway Cay, some even on short 3-night cruises.
Disney World is located only one hour away from Port Canaveral, so this is great news for those that want a Disneylicious vacation.
The longer 7-night Bahamian cruises typically visit both Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay, allowing passengers to enjoy both private islands on a single trip. These extended cruises often include stops at San Juan and Nassau as well.
The Disney Wish is the master of short trips to the Caribbean, specializing in 3- to 4-night cruises to the tropical islands. The Disney Treasure offers similar itineraries but focuses on week-long cruises.
Disney’s Castaway Cay
Castaway Cay is Disney’s main private island in the Bahamas, similar to what CocoCay is to Royal Caribbean. Castaway Cay is a very, very popular stop for your cruise, and there is a good chance that you will always stop there once if you are in either 3, 4 or 7 night cruises. Castaway Cay has two main beaches - a Family Beach and also Serenity Beach, which is adults only.
Castaway Cay features three BBQ locations included in the cruise cost. Yep, all three of them are free! Cookie’s BBQ is near the family beach, Cookie’s Too is on the far side of the family beach, and Serenity Bay BBQ is situated on the adults-only beach. These venues serve hamburgers, fries, hot dogs, and other comfort foods. Lunchtime runs from 11:30am until 2pm. You can also find several bars that sell specialty drinks and cocktails.
There is also a waterslide at Castaway Cay and several kids' play areas for your young ones to enjoy. While you won't find a large waterpark like the one at CocoCay, all waterslides here are free. You can also encounter various Disney characters walking around and explore other attractions like the Snorkeling Lagoon. Additionally, there is a post office conveniently located upon disembarking from your cruise, offering the opportunity to send a letter with a special Disney stamp to a loved one.
Lookout Cay
Lookout Cay is Disney's second (partially) owned island, launched recently on June 7, 2024. Similar to Castaway Cay, it features slides, beaches, and a variety of on-site activities. The main difference lies in their themes: Castaway Cay portrays a fictional narrative, while Lookout Cay celebrates the rich culture of the Bahamas.
Castaway Cay is known for its coves and small beaches, whereas Lookout Cay primarily has a long beach, with a designated adults-only area as well. Lookout Cay also offers complimentary BBQ restaurants like its older sister. While I haven’t visited Lookout Cay yet, online reviews suggest that the water is better than the one at Castaway Cay, though activities are more spread out, requiring you to walk more or get on a tram.
Alaska
- Main destinations: Glacier Viewing, Juneau, Ketchikan
- Ship: Disney Wonder and Disney Magic
Disney Wonder is the ship visiting Alaska in 2024 and 2025, while the Disney Magic offers Alaska itineraries starting in 2026. The Alaska cruise season runs from May to September, so it's a good idea to book and reserve a spot in advance, especially since Alaska is becoming more popular each year. One cool thing about a Disney Cruise in Alaska is that you might encounter characters like Mickey and Pluto in winter gear waiting for you. I bet they feel the cold too!
Disney still doesn’t offer cruisetours similar to those found at Royal Caribbean. Cruisetours are a mix of a cruise with land tours, allowing guests to enjoy days at sea and include land excursions to glaciers and different cities. Disney also doesn’t offer one-way trips to Alaska; every trip departs from and returns to Vancouver.
Mexico

- Main destinations: Catalina Island, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas
- Ships: Disney Wonder
Disney Wonder not only takes you to one of the coldest places on the planet but also to the best places to enjoy tacos and burritos to your heart's content. The most popular cruises to Mexico are 3- and 4-night cruises departing from San Diego that visit Ensenada. The only 7-night cruise is the “7-Night Mexican Riviera Cruise from San Diego”, which stops at Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, and Ensenada.
Europe
- Main destinations: Italy, Norway, England, Greek Isles
- Ships: Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy.
European cruises depart from Southampton (England), Rome (Italy), and Barcelona (Spain). Southampton offers cruises that visit the Norwegian Fjords, Spain, France, and more destinations, while cruises from Barcelona and Rome primarily explore the Mediterranean.
There are short cruises lasting only 3 nights, departing from Southampton and visiting either Belgium or France. The most popular cruise options in Europe are the 7-night cruises that visit several cities. There are also longer 10- and 12-night cruises. There's an amazing 12-night cruise that departs from Rome and visits the Greek Isles and the Mediterranean, as well as a 12-night cruise from Southampton that visits Iceland and the Norwegian Fjords.
Australia and New Zealand

- Main destinations: Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne
- Ships: Disney Wonder
Good news, friends from the South! There are many exciting cruises departing from Australia and New Zealand, including numerous one-way options if you want to travel between the two countries in style. Auckland, Melbourne, and Sydney are the main ports, offering a range of cruises from short 2-night trips to 10-night cruises that go from Auckland to Sydney.
Transatlantic Cruises
- Main Destinations: Port Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale, Southampton, Barcelona
- Ships: Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy
Transatlantic Cruises are special. They happen only once per year, during a very specific date, so make sure to book ahead if you ever want to try one! Disney Cruise Line offers three different transatlantic trips in 2024 and 2025:
- 13-Night Westbound Transatlantic Cruise from Southampton ending in Fort Lauderdale
- 13-Night Eastbound Transatlantic Cruise from Port Canaveral ending in Barcelona (starting at $2,400)
- 13-Night Westbound Transatlantic Cruise from Southampton ending in Port Canaveral (starting at $2,600)
All of these are one-way trips, offering a stylish way to kickstart or end your vacation. Imagine leaving Florida and arriving in Barcelona aboard a cruise ship! It's a good idea to book your spot well in advance, as these exclusive cruises occur only once a year.
Inside cabins sell out quickly. Don’t believe us? At the time of this writing, inside cabins aboard the Disney Dream for the trip between Southampton and Fort Lauderdale in October 2024 are starting at $2,580, while verandah rooms are starting at $2,350. This just shows that inside cabins sell out so fast that they now cost more than the (better) verandah cabins!
Special Days at Sea and Holiday Cruises

Did you know that Disney offers special themed cruises for specific dates and occasions? They feature everything from Marvel Day at Sea to special Christmas cruises for you and your family. These cruises usually offer new shows and meet-and-greets, even if the itinerary doesn’t change much. For example, Marvel Day at Sea includes new shows on the upper deck and introduces superheroes like Captain America and Black Panther aboard the Disney Wish.
Most cruises that are part of Special Days at Sea follow the traditional Bahamian itinerary, with stops at Castaway Cay.
- Marvel Day at Sea: includes several new meet-and-greets and special shows featuring Marvel superheroes.
- Halloween on the High Seas: features costume parties, themed meet-and-greets, and more.
- Thanksgiving at Sea: offers special dining to celebrate Thanksgiving, though no new shows or meet-and-greets.
- Very Merrytime Cruises: includes a Christmas holiday party, tree lighting ceremony, Santa Claus (yay!), and themed meet-and-greets.
- New Year’s Eve: features special dining and a unique fireworks show to celebrate the New Year.
Now that I think about it, here's my question: where is the Star Wars-themed cruise!? Disney tried to introduce a Star Wars hotel in the past, so this is a perfect opportunity to bring Coruscant and Tatooine to the high seas for a few days! Let's have midi-chlorian-infused parties, lightsaber duels, and new shows featuring our favorite characters from a galaxy far, far away...
