Planning a Trip to Sandals Grenada Resort

Sandals Grenada is well known for two things: being a compact resort where everything is close by and for its romantic atmosphere. This beach resort is located in the southern part of the island, extremely close to the airport, with a layout that is very easy to navigate. Most houses create a shield around the pools, restaurants, and most of the activities, while the beach is slightly farther south. The layout is very easy to visualize, as you can see in the map below.

If you hate long trips from the airport to the resort, you’re going to love Sandals Grenada. It might just be the closest beach resort to the... landing strip… ever! Yep. Sandals Grenada is only five minutes from the airport, which means you can arrive on the island and be in your room in record time. Surprisingly, you hardly see or hear any planes while at the resort, since flights to Grenada are not very frequent.

Remember, you can always contact us for more information about Sandals, so make sure to click that Request a Quote button! Reaching out is completely free, and even better, you won’t pay anything extra when one of our travel advisors books your trip. In fact, we might even have access to exclusive offers that can save you money in the end!

Sandals Grenada is beautiful, by the way. The resort launched in 2014, so it’s still relatively new. Most rooms are updated, and nearly all of them include a tranquility soaking tub - yes, even the Luxury Rooms, which are considered the budget option. There are plants and flowers everywhere, adding to the romantic atmosphere. Another big plus is how easy it is to get around. While this isn’t a huge resort, it’s not exactly tiny either. Some of the Butler Suites are located on a small hill at the back of the resort, requiring a climb up a few stairs, but most rooms are on flat ground and very close to all the restaurants and activities.

Another great thing about this resort? The staff. Seriously, just look it up online, most guests on Reddit and TripAdvisor praise the staff, from the gardeners to the waiters and butlers. Maybe it’s something about Grenada, but everyone is friendly and does their best to help you out. Having someone always happy and willing to assist you can definitely make your vacation ten times better.

Sandals Grenada has 11 restaurants, all complimentary. While it may not have any truly outstanding or unique options, I’d say most of the restaurants range from average to pretty good. You’ll find some Sandals favorites that are also available at other resorts, like Soy Sushi Bar, Butch’s Chophouse, Kimonos, and Neptune’s. If I had to rate the food here, I’d give it a 7 out of 10. It gets the job done!

Keep in mind that Sandals Grenada is one of the most expensive Sandals resorts, with room prices starting at $370 per night, per guest. This is more than Sandals Dunn’s River, which opened in 2023 in Jamaica ($310), Sandals Grande Antigua ($300), and Sandals Barbados ($330). However, you’re paying for quality: nice restaurants, a great atmosphere, and excellent staff.

There aren’t many negative aspects to Sandals Grenada, but I’d say the beach could be better. Pink Gin Beach is relatively small, with plain sand that may have a few rocks, and it has a limited area for swimming. This is due to the fact that the water in Grenada can be rough, with more waves than usual. The area inside Sandals Grenada is mostly a calm cove, perfect for you to relax a bit, but outside the conditions can get a bit rough, making it less than ideal for water activities. The good news? The beach is private for Sandals guests, so you won’t have to deal with beach vendors.

Do I recommend Sandals Grenada? Yess. It’s a great place for a romantic vacation on a very unique island. You get a great atmosphere, and there are some excellent restaurants to choose from as well. I wouldn’t go to Sandals Grenada if you really care about a great beach - there are better options on other islands, like Sandals Grande St. Lucia - but if you’re mainly focused on enjoying quality time with your significant other, you can’t go wrong with this one.

The Good

Close to the airport: Some Sandals Resorts, like Sandals Halcyon Beach and Sandals Ochi, require you to stay in a car for one or two hours to get from the airport to your destination. But that’s not the case with Sandals Grenada! The resort is located just on the other side of the airport, making it a quick 5-minute trip from the landing strip to the comfort of your (new) bed. This is great news, especially after a long flight, when all you want to do is grab a nice cocktail and relax. Even better news? You hardly see or hear airplanes, mostly because flights to Grenada are very rare.

Relatively new: Sandals Grenada launched in 2014, so we can say that it’s still new, right? It features some brand-new rooms that still look fresh, and most of them come with a tranquility soaking tub, which is mostly found in Club Sandals rooms nowadays. Some Butler Elite Suites also have private pools or even Sky Pools. Being new also means it has some of the most popular Sandals restaurants, from Soy Sushi Bar to Butch’s Chophouse.

Staff: The staff members at Sandals Grenada are great. Everyone looks happy and does their best to help you out. The gardeners greet you with a smile and a good morning, the butlers work hard to secure a chair by the pool at 4am, and the bartenders offer you their signature drinks. The staff is amazing all around and is considered one of the best among all Sandals resorts, ranking right up there with Jamaica’s Sandals Royal Plantation.

Atmosphere: Sandals Grenada looks amazing. It’s easy to walk around, and everything is close to you, whether it’s a specific restaurant, the gym, or the spa. This isn’t a tiny resort, but it isn’t huge either; it’s the perfect place for couples seeking a romantic getaway. The resort is very clean, with great staff, two amazing pools, some fun entertainment options that range from shows at the main pool to karaoke nights, and you can also find some quiet, peaceful spots there as well. If you want to relax and have a great time, you can’t go wrong with Grenada.

All inclusive: As is the case with Sandals and Beaches Resorts, Sandals Grenada is also all-inclusive. This means that almost every activity is free for you to enjoy, and every restaurant at your disposal is also free. Even tips are included in your package (although you can tip your butler if you are staying in a Butler Elite Suite). Want to save money? You can't go wrong with Sandals.

The Bad

Prices: Sandals Grenada is one of the most expensive Sandals Resorts out there. Rooms start at $370 per night, per guest, which is more than at all the Sandals Resorts in Jamaica. It’s also more expensive than the resorts in Saint Lucia and almost as expensive as the Club Sandals rooms at Sandals Royal Barbados. You are paying for great service and an awesome atmosphere, though, in one of the most charming resorts in the Caribbean.

The beach: I wouldn’t call the beach bad, but it could certainly be better. The beach isn’t big, which is okay since the property isn’t huge, but the sand is a bit plain and may contain rocks. The swimming area is also very restricted, as the sea in Grenada can be a bit rough. If you really care about the beach at a resort, I’d probably look for another destination. The good news, however, is that the beach is private to guests, so you won’t find any beach vendors here.

How to get to Sandals Grenada?

Flying to Sandals Grenada

When you fly into Grenada, you will land in Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND). Grenada is located south of Florida, very close to South America. A flight from Miami to Grenada takes about 3 hours and 45 minutes.

There is a free transfer from the airport to the resort, and the entire trip takes only about 5 minutes. That’s great news, especially for those that were inside a plane for a long time already.

Transportation Options to Sandals Grenada

Once you've completed immigration, look for the small Sandals kiosk nearby and introduce yourself. Remember, transportation from the airport to the resort is included in your stay! You'll board an air-conditioned bus for the journey to your resort. The bus drivers are from a third-party service, and it's okay to tip them if you wish.

Where is Sandals Grenada?

Sandals Grenada is located really close to the airport. In fact, it’s basically located across the street, and we aren’t even joking. That means that you are only going to take around 5 minutes from the airport to your final destination, where you are welcomed by the staff and then taken to your private room. If you're staying in a Sandals Cub room, you have access to a private check in and they even give you a bottle of champagne.

If you need a specific address, Sandals Grenada is located at Pink Gin Beach, St. George's, Grenada. Grenada is an island that is approximately 21 miles (34 km) long and 12 miles (19 km) wide, with a population of 125,000 people.

Staying at Sandals Grenada

Sandals Grenada room.webp
Sandals Resorts©

Sandals Grenada is a pretty good place when it comes to accommodations. This is a relatively small resort, but there are still many room subcategories to choose from. Just a heads-up: the Pink Gin buildings are actually from a previous resort that existed before Sandals acquired it; everything else was built by Sandals. I’d recommend booking a room in one of the other buildings, as those will look new and fresh.

Rooms are separated into three distinct levels: Luxury, Club Sandals and Butler Elite. Luxury is actually the budget option, while Club Sandals tends to bring more upscale rooms and a few additional perks to guests, like a private check-in, a private lounge and a mini-bar with more items. The Butler Elite rooms offer guests their own private butler, who can make reservations for couples, bring meals to their rooms, and assist them in various ways during their stay.

As we stated before, rooms at Sandals Grenada aren’t cheap. A Luxury Room starts at $370 per night, per guest, while a Club Sandals room starts at $430 and a Butler Elite Suite starts at $630. It’s clear that you are also paying for the newer, updated rooms and the romantic atmosphere. It’s great that most of the Luxury Rooms aren’t even ten years old, and many of them come with a soaking tub.

Dining at Sandals Grenada

Sandals Resorts©

Sandals Grenada isn’t exactly known for its amazing restaurants, but it gets the job done. There are 10 restaurants in total, all complimentary for guests. It’s actually a pretty good number, considering that the resort isn’t very large and doesn’t get incredibly crowded.

You can find some Sandals favorites here that are available at other resorts across the Caribbean, like Soy Sushi Bar, Neptune’s, Kimonos, and Butch’s Chophouse. All in all, this is a good resort for Sandals. Not outstanding by any means, but still pretty good.

Here's a sneak peek of the restaurants available at Sandals Grenada, along with the types of food they offer.

  • Butch’s Chophouse (Steakhouse)
  • Le Jardinier (French)
  • Cucina Romana (Italian)
  • Neptune’s (Mediterranean)
  • Kimonos (Japanese Teppanyaki)
  • Soy Sushi Bar (Sushi)
  • Spices (Caribbean)
  • Dino’s Pizzeria (Pizza)
  • Cafe de Paris (Patisserie)
  • Tipsy Turtle Pub (British Pub)

Le Jardinier requires Resort Evening Attire, while Kimonos only require a reservation. Butch’s Chophouse requires both Resort Evening Attire and a reservation. All other restaurants have a Resort Casual dress code and do not require reservations.

Activities at Sandals Grenada

Sandals Resorts©

Sandals Grenada is pretty chill when it comes to activities and entertainment. You can find parties by the main pool every day, and the pub gets crowded at night, which is great for meeting new people. Other than that, expect the traditional Sandals activities, which range from live shows to land sports and various water activities.

Sandals Grenada also offers some optional, paid activities, like snuba - I had to Google that, too, it’s not just you. This is basically a deep dive where you use regular snorkeling gear, but with a tube connecting you to a boat on the surface for oxygen. It looks pretty cool!

Here is a list of what you can find at Sandals Grenada:

  • Scuba Diving
  • Snuba
  • Kayaks
  • Windsurfing
  • Snorkeling
  • Paddle Boarding
  • Land Sports (Beach Volleyball, table tennis, tennis and pool tables)
  • 24-hour Fitness Center
  • Spa

Pools at Sandals Grenada

There are two main pools at Sandals Grenada, both quite large with numerous chairs to choose from. The South Seas Pool, located at the back of the resort, features a swim-up bar and usually has a DJ playing music throughout the day. This is considered the “party” pool, and a great choice for those who want to participate in games and other activities.

The pool at the front of the resort is called the Pink Gin Village Pool and has a calmer, more relaxed atmosphere for those looking to unwind, though it lacks a swim-up bar. Both pools are considered great and are very clean, which is great news considering that the beach is mostly average.

Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park

If there is one optional excursion you should try while staying in Grenada, it’s visiting the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park, which is even included in National Geographic’s “Top 25 Wonders of the World.” This place is exactly what it says in the title: an underwater museum with sculptures located about 3 to 5 meters underwater that you can explore while snorkeling or scuba diving.

It’s the world’s first-ever sculpture park, and I remember it making the news not that long ago. You can find sculptures of people riding bikes underwater, an image of people dancing, and even a group of children. Creepy? A bit, yes. Awesome? Also yes! The park is located about 45 minutes away from Sandals Grenada, and tours there usually cost between $50 and $199 per guest.

Sandals Grenada Weather Guide

Sandals Resorts©

Sandals Grenada is a small island in the Caribbean, and as is the case with most Caribbean destinations (or, well, all of them), the weather is great all year. Temperatures range from 75°F to 87°F, and it rarely goes below 73°F or above 89°F. The cool season lasts from December to March, while the rainy season spans from June to November.

February through May have the lowest chances of rain, while October and November experience the highest precipitation. February to May also has the highest amount of sunshine per day, with 9 hours in February. September and October have 7.5 hours of sunshine, and together with the highest chances of rain, these months constitute the low season, where you can find some rooms at excellent rates. Interestingly enough, sea temperature is higher in September and Octoberat 84°F, and a little bit colder during February-April at 80°F.

Hurricanes can happen, but it’s extremely rare for them to make landfall in Grenada. Hurricane season runs from June to November, especially in September. The last impactful hurricane that hit Grenada was Hurricane Felix in September 2007.

Best Times to visit Sandals Grenada

I mention this in several guides, but any time is a good time to visit the Caribbean. First, you should check your budget and room rates, especially for Grenada, where prices can vary significantly depending on the time of year, and rooms aren’t particularly cheap there. September through November does have more rain than usual, but it’s also the low season, when the resort might be quieter than usual, and you can save some money.

December through March are great months to visit Grenada. You can expect excellent weather, lots of sunshine, and a nice breeze. Rooms are a bit more expensive during this period, but you can also make the most of your stay.

I also really like May and June, known as the shoulder season. Crowds start to disperse, there is still not a lot of rain, and you can get rooms at a better rate. These are probably the months I’d choose for a trip to Sandals Grenada but, as I said, any time is a good time.

Packing list for Sandals Grenada

Sandals Resorts©

Packing for a beach resort isn’t as straightforward as it might seem. While you’ll need several swimsuits, don’t forget to pack at least a few nice outfits for romantic evenings, formal events, or special dinners with the love of your life.

Also, bring essentials like sunscreen and bug repellent from home, as these items are usually much more expensive on-site. It’s always wise to come prepared and bring all the essentials with you instead of waiting to buy them at the resort. Your wallet will thank you later.

We will separate this list into essentials to bring on your beach resort trip and a few nice-to-haves.

Essentials

At least 3-4 swimsuits: Since you're going to a beach resort, swimsuits are essential. Think of it like going to Alaska without a warm coat. For a week-long trip, bring at least three swimsuits so you can change styles daily and have an extra in case one gets lost. They also will not dry hung up overnight, so make sure to bring more than two.

3-4 swim cover-ups: For the ladies, swim cover-ups are incredibly useful at a beach resort. They are great for transitioning from the beach to a nearby restaurant and provide warmth against the chilly wind after a swim.

Rash guard: It protects from the sun. It doesn’t let you burn. You do the simple math and quickly realize it’s a very good item to bring to a beach vacation.

Shorts & t-shirts/skirts & casual dresses: Especially for the guys, shorts and t-shirts are essential. You'll wear them frequently, even pairing khaki shorts with a cozy shirt for dinner. This combo ensures comfort and relaxation during your beach stay.

Flip flops/comfortable sandals: Since you'll be walking a lot on sand and exploring the beach, sandals or flip flops are a must. Let your feet breathe and enjoy the feel of the beautiful, warm sands.

Nice outfits: Bring at least two to three elegant outfits, such as trousers paired with a dress shirt and dress shoes, or an elegant dress. This will also give you a great reason to dress up and enjoy the night parties.

Sun hat: you know those big hats that almost make you look like a Samurai? Yeah, you are probably going to need one of those in a beach resort. They look stylish and they really protect from the sun. Remember, at a beach resort, the sun will be like a new member of your party for the duration of your vacation.

Beach bag: remember to pack a beach bag to take to the… uh… beach. They’re simple, lightweight and perfect for you to throw it on the sand without feeling bad for it. Put all you need inside and you are good to go.

Sunglasses: they protect your eyes from the sun. You only have two eyes, and you should love them, so keep them safe since you will be under the sun for a long time.

Sunscreen: Don't forget to pack your sunscreen! Bring your favorite one, and consider bringing more than one since you'll be using it a lot. While sunscreen is available on-site, it's much more expensive than what you're used to.

Lip balm: sunscreen and lip balm are a perfect pair. Unfortunately you can’t slather sunscreen on your mouth (or maybe you can, I don't know) so it’s a good idea to pack a Lip balm to protect against cracked lips. They’re not expensive, they are very small and won’t occupy a lot of space, so let’s put them into the essential list.

After-sun lotion: Since you'll be spending days under the sun, it's important to take care of your skin. These lotions are perfect for moisturizing your skin after sun exposure and soothing any redness or inflammation.

Some cash: there is a very good chance you won’t ever need cash during your vacation, but it’s always good to bring something in case you need to tip an additional service like a spa treatment, your butler or your bus driver. Cash is also used for transportation outside the beach resort. Better to be safe than sorry!

Nice-to-haves

Bug Spray: this can be a lifesaver against those pesky mosquitoes, though in some beach resorts, it may feel like insects don't exist. Mosquitoes can be particularly bothersome during rainy seasons when humidity rises. It's usually a good idea to bring one along if you have space in your luggage.

Laundry detergent: if you plan on doing laundry during your vacation, you should bring your own detergent. Don’t pack a lot, tough. While some of the most expensive rooms may have washing machines, many do not, and using them often incurs additional charges. For shorter vacations, I’d recommend packing more shirts and skipping laundry, but the choice is yours.

Water shoes: If you plan to walk near the water, especially around rocks and corals, water shoes are essential. They protect your feet and provide added stability while exploring.

Waterproof portable speaker: Planning to enjoy Taylor Swift by the beach? Portable speakers can add to the fun. Just remember to keep the volume at a considerate level, as not everyone may share your love for “Shake it Off” at full blast.

Portable charger: we just know that some of us will spend 25h a day on our cellphones, taking pictures for Instagram in front of the most beautiful vistas in the world. It might be a good idea to pack a portable charger if you plan on using your cellphone a lot while you are out at the beach or just exploring.
