This "mid-tier" Beaches Resort is an excellent choice for your next family vacation in Jamaica

Beaches Negril is one of the best Beaches Resorts, a mid-tier option that offers a stunning beach, excellent rooms, and plenty of activities.

If you're looking for a great resort and are willing to pay a bit more than Beaches Ocho Rios for a slightly more upscale experience, this is a fantastic choice. Plus, the Negril region offers plenty to explore, making it ideal for those who want to venture beyond the resort and immerse themselves in Jamaica’s rich culture.

What we like about Beaches Negril

Beaches Negril looks beautiful, as the resort has been updated multiple times, with the most recent update in 2023. In our review of Beaches Ocho Rios, we mentioned that we wished the resort had received more updates, particularly with renovated rooms, so I’m glad that this has been done for Beaches Negril. The penthouses look like something from a 5-star hotel and tend to receive a lot of positive reviews online.

Another great thing about Beaches Negril is the beach. While it isn’t private, which might be a bit of a letdown, it is beautiful. It may not be as spectacular as Grace Bay Beach in Beaches Turks & Caicos, but it is still amazing. This seven-mile stretch of beach has white sands and turquoise water for you and your family to enjoy. There are even a few floating objects scattered around in the water for kids to play with, climb on, and even do somersaults.

Beaches Resort also offers some amazing dining options. It’s great to know that all 11 restaurants are included in your fare, and the food at Beaches Negril surpasses that at Beaches Ocho Rios and Beaches Turks & Caicos. It’s the only Beaches Resort with an authentic Mexican restaurant, as well as Peruvian cuisine.

Beaches Negril offers special hotel rooms with connecting bunk rooms for your kids, and it also features everything from Sesame Street characters to a huge waterpark and Kids Camp to make them feel like true explorers. Most guests also visit this resort with their families and children, so it’s easy to make new friends!

What we don’t like about Beaches Negril

One of the drawbacks of the resort isn’t about the resort itself, but rather its location, which is a bit far from the airport. While there is a free shuttle included with your stay at Beaches Negril, the journey takes about 90 minutes. That can be a bit of a bummer, especially if you're already tired from a flight. The roads are also quite winding, so be sure to take motion sickness medication if you're prone to it.

Another surprising issue for many guests is the presence of jellyfish in Negril. Touching one feels similar to being stung by a small bee, so it might be a good idea to pack anti-jellyfish lotion when traveling to Beaches Negril. While adults typically don’t mind them too much, we certainly don’t want our kids getting too close. Fortunately, Beaches Negril provides medical services on-site to treat stings as quickly as possible. On the bright side, some guests report spending an entire week at the resort without encountering a single jellyfish.
